Memorial Day Celebrations with American Legion Post 96
As we all look forward to the long weekend, may we be reminded of the true purpose. While many of us appreciate the sales and opportunities to gather with friends, Memorial Day is more than the weekend that kicks off summer and white clothing. The holiday was originally known as Decoration Day following the Civil War, evolving over the years into our Memorial Day, always falling on the last Monday in May.
Please join the men and women of American Legion Post 96 at any or all of the following opportunities to commemorate American military personnel who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
- Friday May 24th, 9:00am – Observe the ceremonial placing of the American flags by American Legion Post 96 in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.
- Saturday May 25th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Red Poppy Fundraiser with American Legion Post 96 at Decker’s Flea Market & Stone Company, Lowe’s, Tractor Supply, Walmart, and throughout Murphy.
- Monday May 27th, 11:00 am – American Legion Post 96 hosts the Memorial Day Ceremony on the corner of Tennessee Street and Hiwassee Street in downtown Murphy.
- Thursday May 30th, 11:00 am – American Legion Post 96 will Present the Colors followed by the reading of veteran names in honor of Memorial Day at the Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital flag pole.
